Rochester Ecology Partners is launching a Tree Ambassador program with funding support from the University of Rochester’s Institute for Human Health and the Environment.

This program will build on the success of the City of Rochester and Highland Planning’s efforts to gather community input for the Urban Forestry Master Plan.

The Tree Ambassador program will aim to engage our community in activities that highlight the health benefits of trees and encourage the expansion of Rochester’s tree canopy.

Program Roles

Tree Ambassadors Engage Neighbors

A team of “Tree Ambassadors” will be hired to engage neighbors, attend events, and promote the importance of trees in the city.

Their training will prepare them to discuss the health benefits of trees, promote the planning of trees in the city, and serve as a connection between neighbors and the City of Rochester’s forestry department. The City of Rochester has identified this as an important role as they work to implement the Urban Forestry Master Plan.

Canopy Council Guides the Program

A “Canopy Council” of community advisors will be created to guide the growth and development of the Tree Ambassadors program.

Members of this group will be chosen based on their commitment to the health of Rochester’s people and environment through their work or personal efforts. The Canopy Council will work together to co-create a sustainable, impactful program that is inclusive and equitable.

Tree Champions Support the Work

“Tree Champions” are businesses and volunteers who are committed to the goals of the Tree Ambassador program.

Through their contribution of time, talent, and treasure, they will support the board efforts of this program to increase the number of, and health of trees in the city, as well as our community’s awareness of why we need trees in our city.

Community Events to Celebrate City Trees

A number of events will be planned to bring neighbors together to learn about and celebrate our City’s trees.

Tree walks, plantings, and picnics will give everyone an opportunity to connect around our common interest in a healthy urban forest. Tree Ambassadors will attend community events to share what htey know about trees and encourage city residents to act.
